Dear blog...

Today I registered for Glastonbury tickets...

No don't worry, It's not becoming one of those blogs but, as I registered for my chance to get tickets, it got me thinking towards the whole festival circuit and how social media is going to impact on that (please tell me if I'm becoming a new media bore!)...

Don't get me wrong, despite never actually going to a concert I love the whole outdoors, tent, drink thing and imagine that this, when combined with fantastic bands playing along side, must create a whole hell of a buzz; One worth the ticket price at least.

I wonder though will people continue to pay to camp in muddy fields and share toilets with 1,000 other people when they can get it all streamlined via a selection of youtube/myspace pages with a choice to watch simultaneous gigs one after another, re-watch, download to your i-pod and share with your friends all whilst enjoying your own private camping experience with your mates paying next to nothing for the pleasure...In other words will festivals survive the all-encompassing web 2.0 revolution?

I suspect so but any thoughts, (especially from proper festival die-hards!) welcome.

Sorry Sam, I'm not a proper festival die hard, but just had to say that I honestly don't know how people manage to survive camping out in muddy fields, I for one could never do it! but then again I'm probably what you call a typical girl!

I would definatley not consider myself a festival die hard but I went to Leeds festival last year and it was one of the best experiences of my life (cheesey I know). Much to my amazement (as I am not ashamed to admit how important my GHD's and other products are to me) I loved the whole camping aspect!!

And those who would choose to watch festivals via the web instead of actually sharing the experience with thousands of other dedicated fans, let's just say they are crazy!!

Festivals are all about the experience and love of the music, let's hope they never die out!!

p.s about to register for my glasto tickets now, thanks for the reminder!!!

First of all thanks sam for the link love of linking to my blog! :)

And secondly though I'm not a proper die-hard festival guy I think that people will certainly carry on going to festivals for the time being, because though technolgy is getting better and better the experience of going to a festival with thousands of people is much diffrent from the experience you get from being at home wathching it with your mates!

If however it did happen then theres bound to be advertising on the streaming video for sure as the convert organisers have to get there money from somewhere! ;)

Anyhow it might just happen, guess will just have to see, good topic to bring up though.

Expect a link back to it sometime soon! :)

Thanks for your comments everyone!

I've got to say that I am relieved to know that you all think festivals won't be going anywhere anytime soon!

Thanks for the (soon-to-be!) link Darren, I really enjoyed reading your blog!
